ABOUT TRENARREN MODELS

HOME

A lifelong interest in model railways, and narrow gauge in particular, extended into garden railways after a move to Tywyn in 2000. The following year a group of us started building what became the Llechfan Garden Railway at the Tal-y-llyn Railway's Wharf Station.

A promise that I wouldn't get too involved in 16mm was broken when I ordered a Roundhouse 'Russell' at the Llanfair Garden Railway Show in 2001, I was hooked!

Fast forward to 2007 and I was exhibiting my 7mm narrow gauge layout at Llanfair when a chance conversion brought the news that Perfect World were looking to sell on their range of scenic accessories. After talking to them at the show and a visit to Yorkshire the decision was made to take on this range of items as a part time business alongside my day job.

Why Trenarren Models? I had always said that I would name any model business after my 7mm layout which is based on the Cornish China Clay industry I grew up with, so although I was still going to market the range as Perfect World Scenics I decided to use Trenarren Models as the umbrella business name.

A year or so later the former Sweet Sixteen figures were added to the business and then the RMS (Robert Maynard Smith ) range of castings. More recently the chance to acquire the P&J scenics and figures range was taken. All this was becoming quite difficult to maintain as well as a day job so in June 2010 I took the plunge and went full time. Whilst I now had the time it still presented problems at home as I was using the shed (o.k.) and (o.k.) the garage, (o.k.) the conservatory and spare room (definitely not OK!)

Prompted by a burst pipe which stopped me working at home for most of the summer in 2011, I moved production into a building nearby which has proved to be well worth it as every is now under one roof.

The Future? Now that I have the time and space I intend to finish getting all the ex RMS and P&J products back on the market as well as introducing new items. Quite simply our aim is to be the prime source of all things Scenic & Lineside for 16mm railways, whether it be in the garden or indoors.
